I know this industry pretty well as I ran a skate/snow shop for 3 years...aside from participating for (wow has it been that long) 18+ years.

There are only a handful of factories that press decks, many others supply their designs and have their artwork printed. From a legal perspective it will not make any difference because it is "your" product. From that point it will be up to you to bring claims against the manufacturer if indeed there is some type of proven negligence. Either way, all of this is tough to prove with sports products.

    Hi,
I am at the start of creating a online skateshop, I even registered a business.

But in many forums, some people say it's not worth having a online skateshop because it's too much hassle and its non profitable.

So should I go on with it or think about something else?

    thanks

Dustin, there are a bunch of companies that will print whatever you want on skate decks. It all depends on how many you want. If you are talking hundreds of each design then you can go to factories, and if you are talking twenty or so at a time then there are companies that just print blank decks, but they're more expensive per deck. I think you'll find that getting them made is the easy part though. The market is somewhat saturated for decks so you need to either have a great niche market or go full out with a team, videos, distributors and marketing. Basically its an easy thing to get into, but a tough thing to be successful at. The target market is teens and they are the most trend conscious consumers out there, so you'll have to do something to separate yourself from the herd.

    Best of luck to you!

I am also looking to start up a small T-shirt company (in the hope that it will grow) but i dont have a clue where to start. I figured that it would be a good start to get a website up and running showing my products, i looked into making one and i had to give up it was too confusing. I looked around my local town to see if there were any t-shirt printing companys and there were'nt, so that set me back even more. Then i thought to myself, how will i actualy get my products to be sold on well known online skate shops (skate warehouse for instance). Any help would be great.

Joess, I can help you (with advice) get into the skateboarding industry, the big question would be what are you looking at for startup capital?

doesn't matter whether its a dry cleaning business, or a skateboard business, its still a business your entering into. You obviously know very little about business, go and buy aload of books, and learn the basics.

Why do so many people come on this forum asking about how to run a business? It just seem's so bloody obvious that you should get some books to learn..
