    Starting....

Thinking of starting an online site similar to rate my professor, however it's "rate my school". With my displaying this idea (although it's practically common sense) I wonder how many college kids like me will now try to start their own site similar to my idea.

Anyway, I really don't know where to start except to start a website from a hosting site and also have a forum similar to this site's forum. I know it takes time, rate my prof started in 1999 and took that long to get to the point where its at now. So I know it will take a lot of time and the biggest way to spread is word of mouth which I will use to my advantage.

I would set the business up as an LLC, unsure of the business name at this time. I know how to run a business (insurance, taxes, accounting, etc.) as I plan on starting a landscape contracting business (had a business plan since my sr. year of high school (freshman in college now, majoring in either entrepreneurship or accounting or double major, not exactly sure yet) and continually perfect it nearly daily) asap upon graduation of college, I'd like this site to generate my income on top of my current job (landscape company foreman & sales manager) so I wont have to borrow as much for school and I can start my landscaping business sooner and then own 2 businesses.

I know I get tired of seeing stupid questions on the landscaping forums where people ask what to charge, but the way I'd bring in revenue for this web business is through advertising obviously and it takes site users to generate the want for advertisers but is there a going rate to charge or how does it work? For those that do know but dont want to discuss on a public forum you can PM me if you want.

    Thanks guys.

yes for websites you charge rates depending on location, website traffic, etc. You will need traffic to your site before you can charge anything.

In a sense, yes. I'd have a couple other features that that site doesn't have to separate my site from theirs, in hopes of having the competitive edge.
