    Shredding business

I am wanting to start up a mobile shredding business where I will shred computer related items. Full systems, hard drives, CD's, backup tapes, etc. I have looked to see what other companies in my area offer it and there are only a few. Some places offer it but it's not on site. I want to do this on the companies site. They can see and trust that it was destroyed and never looked at. I would also like to do a once a month shredding program for home users where I would setup in a local area shopping complex and they would bring me their items to shred.

Having been in the I.T. industry for 20+ years and watched as many companies either just formatted or smashed drives with hammers before dumping them in the trash and they think the data is unrecoverable.

I know I basically need a truck like a Penske and then a hard drive shredder. As always I would also need to have some sort of liability insurance as well. What else would I need to successfully run a business like this? I think this is a business that will always be in need by companies either large or small as well as the ordinary home owner.

    So what do you think??

    Thanks,
    Paul

Not a bad idea... Not sure how many people are doing this.. The truck with the needed equipment will run you a bit of money. You also have to consider what you will do with the waste. There are materials in computers that won't allow you to just go offload at the dump. I would do some research on that end to see if this is a viable business.
