Selling perfume and cologne on Ebay

I've always been interested in running my own business and have started a few unsuccessful websites when I was between 14 and 16. I know some web design and graphic designing skills but have never been able to start a successful website.

I'm 18 now and I just started selling some things on Ebay, stuff around the house and some things my friends wanted me to sell for them. I realized after selling a few things that I could probably get a business going just by selling things on Ebay.

I also realized that Ebay is quite saturated.

I bought some perfume for my girlfriend at a local flea market called Light Blue by Dolce and Gabana. It only cost my $20 and I checked how much it sold for retail and it sold for about $50. And I realized that Dolce and Gabana perfumes sold very quickly on Ebay.

I am very interested in starting up a business selling colognes and perfumes on Ebay, the only thing standing in my way is finding a real wholesaler for these products that would sell light bulk.

I was wondering if this was a good idea or if I should switch products or ideas?

I was also wondering how to get my tax id.

I'm pretty sure you'll have to go to your local court house if you want it to be a registered business with a tax ID. If you are just going to set it up as a sole proprietorship you can use your SS# as your tax ID. Go to your local library and check out a book about business start up information if you are serious about this. Also, you should have a business plan even if you don't need a loan and are just doing it via the Internet. That will be your road map to success. Best wishes!

So, your saying that if I were to buy wholesale and they asked for my tax id I could just give them my SS#?

All the guides I read regarding to buying wholesale for your ebay business have said that you need a tax id to buy wholesale.

To sell wholesale you legally need the tax id of the customer

    Perfume

I don't know if you are interested in only aquiring "name-brand" products for resale, but I am an independent perfumer who has been studying the science of fragrance for years and have developed many perfumes that I have only given away to friends/family. I am very interested in turning this into a business opportunity. The raw materials that I use in my perfumes are of the highest grade you can get anywhere, including many exotic oils not typically used in perfumes and additionally oils of purities that far exceed the purity of essential oils found in the majority of your high end perfumes. The only problem is getting these out there...nobody has a clue about these except for the one's who wear them and the people who have inquired in multitudes where they could get some of what they have on!

Just to let you know what you are going up against... Many of the perfumes and colognes sold on eBay are watered down products that wear off quickly. They are packaged very similar to the actual product, but have some noticable differences. The fact that they are watered down makes them still resemble the cologne, so less educated cologne wearers (which is probably 90-95% of their sales) still give the business positive feedback.

If you look at a forum where true cologne fanatics are (like basenotes.com), you will see posts about them saying how most of what they've bought "New In Box" on eBay are actually watered down fakes, much like what you can buy on the black market in major cities like New York.

Just letting you know that there are many counterfeits in the business, so you have to beware since the cards might be stacked against you.

    cheap perfumes

buy and sell is a new way of earning money even if your still in Highschool/College. All you need is a stable internet connection, patience and researching skills to find the cheapest wholesale manufacturers around different countries. And in line with this, I stumbled upon this website named High Street Perfumes, they sell cheap online perfumes
