I am thinking of opening a Maternity and baby Clothing store.
I am having a hard time find any market statistics. I would also like to know the potentail income of owning this type of bussiness.
Any help would be appriciated.

you will have a hard time to find stats for the whole market as its to specfic for many governments to commission pubic reports. The big firms in the market will have the information you want but you wont get it off them not cheap at least. However to look at potential income and a brief discription of future of the market go to libary and find mintel report. for potential income best option would be to find similar companies and look up there accounts which in the uk atleas must be published every year at companies house

thanks......... i know this will work in my area but i am getting so discourage...... there is only one maternity store in the city and that is a franchise.

Sorry I cannot help you out with statistics or anything but one thing to consider is maybe even having a consignment section. And maybe even another section for mothers who do not have that much money or a day where that they can come in look through donated items.

Is owning a maternity and baby clothing store what you love to do? If so then focus on that and helping peolple with what you offer. Try and place as little attention as possible on your fears, doubts, and worries. Success will inevitable follow if you're doing what you love, because you'll do it well and be passionate about it.

Well as your not from the UK, i would recommend you check the competition in this market! Like in the UK there is one called Mothercare, very large and numerous stores throughout the country. This shows there is a large market for it theroughout the UK!

Now, I recommend you going to your local GPs and hospitals and asking how many people are having babies on average for the last 4 or 5 years. This will be some good statistics to start with, becuase if there are not alot then there isn't a big market to target!

Normally people just goto like walmart and get em'... WHy would someone goto a store that will probably be expensive for clothing that you only wear for a few months, unless you wanna just look silly wearing it after you don't need it anymore. lol

old post but anyway. Im not sure about the market for maturnity clothes, but i can ensure you that their is massive market in the UK for baby clothes, yes people will go to tescos ( our version of walmart) and buy cheap clothes and they are fine with that, if 1) they can only afford that 2) they see that its will only last a few months, however the market for designer baby clothes and dressing your baby up its becoming hugely popular here. I am not sure if the trend is the same over there but i cant see it being much different. Mothers spend amazing amount of money on new baby clothes and spoil their new babies rotten. I agree from a guys prespective that its a waste of money and the baby not gonna know ne difference, but there is a market for it.
