    Setting clear expectations right from the beginning is an important first step. They have to know exactly what you expect of them. Also with interns you have to remember that they are there to learn, so be sure to give them plenty of opportunity to do that and let them know you appreciate their efforts.

    Would suggest you to see The Devil Wears Prada ( Film ), you will truly get a lesson how to manage others or work under a very stressed condition with a very strict boss. When you learn to work under such conditions you automatically understand that how should you deal with your employees at your turn.

    I think we have two competing threads here. Members should create new posts when going off-topic, not hijack another's thread.

    That being said, I agree with Bizalchemist. Have clear commitments, communicate expectations with the intern, and plan and measure results with them. If you can spare the people, putting a senior line employee in charge of an intern is an excellent way to give an employee with little perceived upward mobility added responsibility and challenge. At my consulting firm, we recommended companies embrace internship programs. They can be an excellent pool of talent from which an employer can: 1) probate a candidate for 90 days; 2) enculturate them to the environment; and 3) offer a position to the most promising candidates. Why even recruit for a junior position when you can evaluate interns who already have learned your processes and procedures?

    Hi,

    yeah, your right the intern also can do better than what you've expected from them.They also have an idea that you've never think of...fresh and more relevant than yours...you will also learn thing from them....
