    Recruiting web developers

Since I am still in Uni, and short on funds, and start-up cash, is University the best place to recruit for skill and able minded individuals who will work for peanuts I have this website/service idea and I know they will see the potential and will probably work for nothing and will seek experience at the same time.

Are there other cheap labour resources I should look at. Such as web development bidding sites for skilled individuals from India. Anybody have experience with this idea.

Check rentacoder.com and odesk.com I've done well with both of these.

I agree with Zach. If you're new to outsourcing, check out rentacoder first. It's ugly, but its better for someone less experienced with managing a project on the web. It's design will improve your chances of success

You can build a lot with only a few hundred bucks, but do your homework. Workout what you need, how it should be done, what shortcuts are possible etc. This will save you money and improve your end result. Don't rely on your freelancer or uni mates to work it out.

From personal experience, i'd be careful using uni students if its a large project. They get bored and are difficult to motivate if the project drags on for more then a few weeks. If it's something small and could be done in a weekend or two, that could be a cheaper way.

Checkout my blog if you want more advice on using freelancers. That's what its all about.

    Good Luck!

To be honest, I had trouble with elance when I started out. rentacoder has a structured 'interview' approach, which forces you to think about your project a bit more. Elance is more just like writing a post on a forum. Faster for experienced users, dangerous for newbies IMO. I also don't like the way elance's escrow system works. I've just had better outcomes and experiences on rentacoder.

On that topic, ALWAYS USE ESCROW and under no circumstances release payment until you're happy that the work is finished! Don't be sold into releasing it early for *any* reason

    Cheers
