Is there a dollar advantage for my company to give me 100% reimbursement value for travel awards won & only 50% value if I wanted to choose to receive cash instead?

For example, if I reach a certain sales level, the company rewards me with the award of being 100% reimbursed for my hotel, rental car, meals and air ticket costs incured. After my trip, I present my receipts up to the value they allow (let's say a total of $1800) and then they cut me a check for that amount. But if I wish I can simply take $900 in cash when I qualify for the award.

Is there an actual financial reason why the company does this other than the "we want you to take a trip" answer which I believe is ridiculous.
