How do you feel about WordPress?

Do you guys support using wordpress instead of your actual domain name? I feel wordpress limits your profit, like you don't have as much freedom, but I may be wrong. Has anyone profited off of wordpress?

If you are talking about Wordpress.com service, you cant make money on the blog hosted there. So, you need to take wordpress.org software and install it to your own hosting to start to make money using Wordpress.

WordPress is CMS solution (Content Management Solution) used to update content on a web site without knowing HTML.
You can WordPress installed on your own domain name ::: YOURNAME.COM :::

It does not have anything to do with limiting profits, but it could save you money since you would be able to update the content on your web site without having to pay someone to do it.

Yes, WordPress is helpful for the newbies who want to publish their site. WordPress does not demand any technical know-how of any language like HTML, CSS, etc. It is easy to develop a page using WordPress. It is also true that WordPress will limit your profit. To make money you have to install wordpress.org software on your own host.

I've been developing on WP for about 12 months now, and build all my client sites on it. I've never been one for reinventing the wheel; but I've put some massive chromes on it.

I'm currently working on a website which uses WP as the backend, but you would never know it was WP - completely custom in functionality.

However, if you want custom templates - there is a learning curve as it doesn't have a fantastic template engine - so PHP code is scattered throughout HTML.

Yes, WordPress is valuable for the newbies who want to publish their web page. WordPress does not need any specific know-how of any language like HTML, CSS, etc. It is easy to make a web page using WordPress. It is also actual that WordPress will control your earnings. To produce profits you have to set up wordpress.org program on your own manager.

I like the idea of using wordpress or any other CMS based platform but have found 2 things to be a major issue.

    1. Speed. I no doubt notice a very slow load time with worpress... some have said it's godaddy and it may just be that but personally I have no patience for it. There is so much that needs to be finessed in order to make it run faster with plugins and rewriting code and even then there is no real difference.

    2. As a web designer I have noticed that custom websites rank better in search engines over a wordpress site and they get higher alexa rankings faster.

But if you are not a web designer and need to constantly change your content then I would seriously consider your hosting account as that is the only thing I have not be able to experiment with.

I agree with everyone here - you need to do it thru wordpress.org. Once you do that, there's tons of help out there to get up and running. There are great themes too. Check out Theme Forest, they literally have thousands.

Look for tutorial videos and forums to get going. Takes some time, but it's not too hard.
