WordPress is a free and open source blogging tool and a content management system (CMS) based on PHP and MySQL.Here any technical know-how of any language like HTML, CSS. It has many features including a plug-in architecture and a template system. WordPress is used by over 16.7% of Alexa Internet's "top 1 million" websites and as of August 2011 manages 22% of all new websites.

WordPress is helpful for the newbies who want to publish their site. I see many plug-ins and software available for wordpress. I've been developing on WP for about 12 months now, and build all my client sites on it.

WordPress is helpful. Here any technical know-how of any language like HTML, CSS, etc. It is easy to develop a page using WordPress. As a web designer I have noticed that custom websites rank better in search engines over a wordpress site and they get higher alexa rankings faster.
However, if you want custom templates - there is a learning curve as it doesn't have a fantastic template engine - so PHP code is scattered throughout HTML.

Obviously you haven't used wordpress with the right plug-ins. It's MUCH better than many scripts/CMS's out there.

I love to use Wordpress for the smaller websites I make for small businesses but anything data driven I like to make from scratch or with ASP.NET

Can you get pre-made websites that are available for anyone to buy a license to use? I'm skeptical about Wordpress but also need an easy to use CMS that is also felxible and keep costs down (its too expensive to get a site only customised for my own needs.

Before you invest your valuable time and energy into installing WordPress, there are some documents you need to read to help you get started.

It might start as a blogging platform, but now you can use it as a full blown CMS to manage various sites from a simple company profile, ecommerce, forums to social media.

What I love is they have the most extensive documentation and community support.
