I support WordPress it is user friendly and easy to manage. It's also free open source so it doesn't get any better than that. However, get your own domain name and have someone install the software and template if you choose to use one.

Wordpress is a great platform for blogging, but its better to use your own code from scratch, so you are staying much more flexible to changes you will maybe want to implement in the future.

I lover Wordpress, and have used it for numerous sites. But just to clarify something that tends to be confusing for WP newbs, there are 2 ways to get a Wordpress blog:

wordpress.com - Use this to set up a blog with a subdomain, such as yoursite.wordpress.com. This is good if you just want to write without worrying about the site, because you can just create an account and start writing.

wordpress.org - This is where you can go to download the actual Wordpress software to install on your own server or hosting site. It requires a bit more technical know-how, but it gives you more freedom. It is all open source, so you can modify the code to add new functionality that wordpress.com doesn't offer.

Just wanted to get that cleared up for anyone who might be confused. With that in mind, using the code from wordpress.org is probably a better business choice. Having your own site looks more professional, and is also more scalable.

WordPress and Google Sites can both be ideal for early stage businesses.

WordPress and Google Sites are easy setup website tools that can quickly be leveraged by non-technical individuals in launching a business blog or website. They are ideal for quickly ramping up a new businesses that needs to web-enable messaging, productivity and in establishing trademarks/branding.

Wordpress is great for start-ups and established businesses. I am not talking about Wordpress.com, as it is more suitable for blogs.

Wordpress.org is a more DIY setup. You would choose your hosting company making sure they support the latest version of Wordpress. The easiest, as mentioned before, would be if your hosting company supports one-click installs. I am a web designer/developer and the hosting company I use is Dreamhost. I can register the domain through them, do the one-click install, and I am ready to customize the site.

I love it, if you can't tell, because it is a great framework and it is extendable, and it has a really active community if you get stuck on anything. Something else: If you use it out of the box, it will look like other Wordpress sites. But as you learn to work with it, you can create your own themes, or even buy premium themes. Too much to list here!

I have profited in the past using the "open-source" .org version of wordpress to host a website and it worked incredibly well for me. It's a nice easy way to get content online from anywhere, and from any type of device.
