Exclamation What to do when a candidate asks for more money?

I sent this guy a job offer after interviewing him and others. He now asks for approx. 30% more. I definitely won't pay him that. How do I tell him that my offer is final? and not ruin the relationship in the process?

I don't want to sound too harsh, or it will be akward when he comes to work.

    Please help.

You can do as the majority of all businesses do, tell him this is the starting wage, he can expect a review after 90 days, 6 months, and 1 year. Now it has been my experience that you never receive any wage increase, however 96% of all applicants will fall for that ploy. You explain that the company policy will not allow you to increase the starting wage, even though you would love too for him.

He might just take the job, and agree to your terms. Remember this is business, not personal.

Just flat out tell him what he will be paid. Tell him after working for a while, maybe he can reach that 30% more pay. One thing you never want to do is let the employees try to run the show. You're the boss, don't let him think otherwise. What relationship would be ruining? Do you personally know the guy?

The question is really is this guy worth 30% more?

If he can give you more revenue and profits , is it worth giving this guy 30% increase in his basic wage to give you the extra profits/revenue?

Don't give him the 30% plus!!! Find someone else instead... Money is everything in the business.

I deffinetley agree with N james if this guy knows what hes doing maybe its worth it to pay him the extra 30% instead of hireing someone that wont do the same work he will do..

I have seen alot of BS spoken on job interviews. Just tell him you will review his pay at a further time and if he isnt happy with that dump him cause he will keep asking for more all the time.
