Personally paypal in my opinion as it's used widely over the internet and the newer ones except stormpay, 2C0 etc mainly have to run through paypal's payment processor so that's why its the best imo.

For australians, there is an Australian alternative to paypal, which is called PayMate, but basically its owned by eBay from what I know. Best thing is you don't need an account to pay via paymate and its native to australia, so yeh, there you go

Preference wise my choice would be Paypal, 2checkout ( International), ChronoPay, Worldpay, moneybookers ( UK/EU )

I've heard of so many Pay Pal horror stories about accounts being frozen on legitimate accounts. I now run my things through Alertpay because I can afford this to happen to us.

I had my account frozen once early on for selling an "illegal supplement".

I spoke with paypal and they removed the freeze rather quickly. I think that as long as you can explain your situation and the product in question (and the product isn't against their TOS) you'd be fine.

I haven't yet finished a project that involved payment from the user, so I don't have a lot of experience using any of them.

But I am surprised that no one has mentioned Google Checkout. As far as I can tell it has the absolute lowest cost per transaction plus free transactions if you already use AdWords. Google also has one of the most trusted names on the internet.

Not SURE who is best but Paypal is by far the worst to accept payments..I have many horror stories because of them..They have stolen thousands of dollars from me through the years since 2001...I dont use them any more(since 6 months ago),
heres an example.......The last straw with them was about 6 months ago...Someone bought an xbox 360 from me on ebay..They payed through paypal...3 months later I see my paypal balance 400 dollars negative.I call them, they tell me the person that payed used a stolen credit card and the money was refunded to the credit card company...Paypal told me to get a hold of the persons phone number and call....They said ebay would help me(paypal is owned by ebay,so why cant they help directly, but anyway)..I called ebay and they basically tell me to call paypal ,ebay doesnt have anything to do with it.So I got the run around. On top of this Paypal never emailed me or anything to tell me what happened, they just put my balance negative while at the same time trying to take money out of my bank account without my authorization...

Hmm I was just in a paypal litagation lawsuit for this same reason(I only got a 600 dollar check for them stealing over 3 grand out of my bank account)....So I called my lawyer and hes looking into it if he can go start another lawsuit against paypal for taking money out of peoples bank account without authorization, since this is totally illegal....anyway I estimate paypal has stolen over 5 thousand dollars from me through the years...PLEASE SAVE YOURSAELF THE HEADACHE,LISTEN TO THE OLD TIMER HERE.DONT USE PAYPAL FOR LARGE MONEY ORDERS!!

There's so many paypal horror stories.

I think the only way to do Paypal is clean the money through your account quickly, move it off to somewhere else where they cannot touch it.

Then, when they put a negative balance on your account, you fight it. But if you can't, just get a new PayPal account. (Ie. Set up a new bank account, new Visa Debit, etc.)

Definately Paypal Ae The Worst, They Are The Best In The Respect That Most Ebayers Prefer Them, But Thats Only Because Ebay Promote Them All The Time As They Own The Company, I Prefer Moneybookers To Be Honest, Hardly Anyone's Heard Of It But Im On A Mission To Get Them To Take Over Paypal Lol
