As a lawyer, it's self-serving of me to say "hire a lawyer." However, you should. I understand (I am a business owner myself) that budgets start out low, but the catastrophic consequences of a lawsuit for breach of contract or something else will certainly not be in the budget, either. At least consult with a lawyer after drafting your own contract. Get a few hours of legal advice and chalk it up to a business expense.

Every business starting up needs to incorporate some cash for legal advice. There are too many hurdles in the process to skip this step. Lawyer, accountant, insurance agent. These are three key contacts you must develop.

Agreed. If possible, allocate some of your resources into your budget for legal. It's really the most important piece to the puzzle and having a good lawyer on hand to guide you through all the [confusing] legalities is so, so, vital.

I should also mention that legal fees can be tax deductible. Your accountant can advise you on that.

Although I am an attorney, you may also want to reference legalzoom.com which are template forms. It is always best though to consult an attorney given your state laws but this may be a starting point.

    Dear Dimitrios44

How many entertainment contracts do you do in a month?

Does the other party ask you to sign their "standard contract"?

How many people attend your events?

I might be able to help.
