I do not know much about camcorders. I did look online at the canon xh-al, canon XL2, & sony handy cam dcr-vx2100. I would like somthing semi-professional. I don't mind spending $4,000. Dose any one work in videography that can give me a great suggestion on what to look at. And what they recommend buying.

I don't have a real recommendation for specific camera's, but I have done a lot of videos and short films, DVD's, etc so I have some experience.

I recommend spending some money and getting a decent camera. I've always used miniDV cameras with great results. I DON'T recommend getting the HD cameras that are out now because there isn't a lot of software that handles the HD part correctly.

I've always used Adobe Premiere or Apple Final Cut Pro for my video editing. There are some other alternatives that are a bit cheaper and have less of a learning curve, but either of those two would be great. I've also used Adobe Encore DVD (which is okay) and Apple DVD Studio Pro (which is really good) for the DVD Authoring.

I also recommend looking into a decent lighting kit for filming. Getting the lighting correct can make a so-so video look much more professional.

Good luck with your project. If you need any help, please let me know.
