It was too harsh. In my opinion I agree with you that it is a waste of time and money to get an education in dance. But you never have the right to step on somebodies dream.

Depends on whether or not you planned on getting anywhere with her. If so, then dance is great. If not, then you can really tell her what you think.
Probably to harsh. If someones passion is dancing then why cant they study dancing?
if thats what made her happy and wanted to do in life, then whats wrong with it?
Dancers tend to take good care of themselves. As guys, I think we all can appreciate that, right?
Whether it was too harsh or not would depend on her reasons for doing dance.

I wouldn't say its necessarily harsh; she's not made of thin glass for heaven's sake. I'd say its just too troublesome. The way you say it isn't really going to help anyone in the room. The word is tactless. Did you expect her to follow your advice just like that?
Hey, i was drunk off my nut... so lol.
narrrrrrrrrrrrrh thats fine.
Well, it is her dream. But to expect the taxpayer to fork out for it? I agree with you. The problem with our universities is that they're chock-full of useless courses - art history, Asian studies, literature, and so on. A lot of the new courses coming through are little more than intellectual masturbation by professors out to impress each other and indoctrinate young people into their point of view.
Is it any wonder Australia's losing ground to the rest of the world every year in the disciplines that really matter? Who fills up our science, engineering, business, computing and accounting courses? International students! What are the locals studying? Art history and religious studies and other stuff that is intellectually satisfying but otherwise largely useless.

No not really lol.... What did you say u were doing or did she not ask?

Sorry mate, what the hell did that (or Workchoices) have to do with a single thing I said? Yeah, being against offering pottery or dance or religious studies degrees at university is indicative of a right-wing loony. By your logic, being FOR these courses would mark you out to "join the Labor party and rock out at endless orgies for democratic humanists... ya know, the kind where they pat themselves on the back just for being contrary."
By the way, under the classical definition of economic rationalism - see Democratic Humanism (3) - Know Your Dragon - since there is a demand for these services (courses), the economy will provide them. What I'm advocating is interference in this particular economic activity, i.e. stopping it. And in any case, I'm of the opinion that demand follows supply in terms of many of the new courses on offer, not the other way around.
