Question To Joint Venture or Not?!?

I've started my own business consulting group and have been working with a client for a few months developing her business strategy, outlining financials, typical business planning kind of stuff. We work really well together - she's a true creative (check out her accessories line at www.katie-james.com) while I'm more of the egghead. ANYWAY, she's got a terrific idea for a new product and we were talking about how we could partner on this new project. Any suggestions re: how we could structure an arrangement - would this warrant a jv, a partnership agreement?!
Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

I need more information as well.

    However, here's some advice:

    1. Make sure you have clearly defined roles, bounderies, procedures and expectations.

    2. Put everything in writing.

    3. Remember, business is business. I've seen the best of friends become enemies after they became business partners.

Nothing surprises me anymore then a consulting company, who has to resort to asking for help, when they are the helpers. Your web site depicts an above average consultant firm, yet the context is lacking in merit.

Your question is basic and easy to put forth a reasonable answer. You are only the adviser to the client; it would be very unprofessional of you to expect more then a passive role. (You advise and they utilize that information to help their business) To partner with a client would shatter the client/adviser relationship, and jeopardize your professional position.

    Taken from your web-site:
Since inception, The Matchstick Group has helped several small business owners
    - Develop more robust business plans
    - Understand customer needs and buying behaviors
    - Answer key business questions

If you wish to invest in a client's venture, you would need to have a well-planed role. I have on occasion, hired a consulting firm to handle a business matter, only to except the consulting fee back as an investment.

If you find an idea or concept to remarkable to walk away from, you could offer to invest your consulting fee as a joint-venture/investment.
