Starting a business... Legal stuff involved?

Hello everybody,

I am looking to start a business in the near future, and am wondering how to legally go about doing so. I have absolutely no experience in this field, so please explain yourself if you're going to use complicated terms...

So here's a bit of information on the business... I will go into more detail later if needed, but am on kind of a tight schedule at the moment and have to go in a few minutes. So yeah, we will be a business offering networking solutions to students via a website.

Hi Brenden,

The first thing I would do in order to get legal information is to find a lawyer and accountant and ask them what the best structure would be for your website. If you plan on making the company large, with many levels of employment and lots of cash flow, then I would consider incorporating. What this means is that the business would be a separate entity from yourself, which offers you better protection if you were to get sued or legally attacked in the future.

I would also recommend finding a mentor, which is not as hard as it sounds. Find the local chamber of commerce, or local business help center. Then schedule a free consultation with someone who has run business' before.

After that, I would recommend writing a business plan. Go to the website Business Plan Software and Free Sample Business Plans for information and examples.

Hey Brendan,

I'm not sure if this is the response you were looking for but I just recently got started with a company that is helping people start their own businesses. We are currently helping small and We are spread out all over North America. There is no experience required to work with us and if it doesn't work out, you would at least get some business material learned. I can give you more information if you like.
