Simple Product Idea. How to get started?

I have an extremely simple product idea that I feel could be very popular, but I'm not sure where to start with the idea. The 'invention' is super simple and can be made with products found a local stores however, despite the simplicity the creation process is rather tedious. Do I assemble some and try to approach some sort of manufacturer or what? Thanks for the help!

I would assemble your product first and give it to a few people to use (not your family members). Have them provide feedback. This will give you insights into how they use it and what they think about it.

From there, do some research. Search for people who are in need of your solution and build a relationship with them. Pick their brain. This will give you insights into how your product can evolve.

building those early relationships will help you build brand evangelists down the road. Always think about word of mouth.

Would you mind describing what type of product it is? I have some experience dealing with product prototyping when I was apart of a company that built watercraft and generally we start with a CAD drawing and a 3D printing machine to develop the first prototype out of foam or light plastic before taking it to production.

Check out emachineshop.com This company gives you the software for free to draw out you product and they will produce a model in pretty much any material you request. Again, I don't know what type of product this is, so my recommendation is some what ambiguous.
