    should i move my business??

    my boutique has been open for about 1 1/2 yrs and is doing pretty good. i am not in the best location...i am down a very busy street but surrounded by a few empty buildings & a few small businesses. i spoke with another business owner & she is located next to Subway, which she said lots of Subway customers walk into her business. i know location is everything, but here is my question....right now i am paying $400/month in rent & if i move to a busy section of town i will be paying around $1000/month...is it worth the risk? what happens if i move there & can't afford my rent?

    to move - or not...

    $7200 extra a year in rent seems like a lot to *me*...

    I'd be more apt to politely go back to my landlord and have a heart to heart about his efforts to fill the 'empty' surroundings - and inquire about how you could help him rent out those facilities and get a break on your rent as an 'affiliate'? Then go work on other (non-competing) small business owners in your area to come to the "reasonable side of town"... as far as 'brick&mortar' rent goes...

    ...this - all because you make it sound like you are satisified with your current traffic/location - and that you're 'doing pretty good'.

    NOTE: Don't forget the costs of moving inventory - changing business documents - etc. - when calc-ing out the costs of the move...

    yah, I agree. Make the most of what you have first. See if you can make enough to live well off and pay the 1000 rent before you make the move. It could be worth it, but you don't want to run the risk of fuckin up a good thing. Also on an unrelated note, fix your website or take it down because so many people fail to realize that a poorly done site can hurt business more than help. It will make people think your business quality is as unprofessional as your site

    As what you have said, you are already doing pretty good in that area so maybe you just need to wait a little longer before you move into that busy part of the street.
    Before considering moving, analyze first your financial position. Can you afford the additional increase in rent?
    Also, you have to do a market research first. Maybe your customers like the present location of your store where they can shop quietly.

    Why move?
    Your doing pretty good. What happens if you move, and no-ones comes into your boutique and another company moves into the building you previously used.
    Someone mentioned talking to your landlord and asking him to try and get the empty space filled, and i completly agree as if you get them filled you will be increasing traffic to the area, hopefully..and you should get more business from that.

    Ok, location is important but if your doing pretty good and you will be saving $600 if you stay which is 1 and a half months rent.

    Maybe, you could open a new boutique in that location and have them both running get the new shop on a short lease just incase it doesnt work out and if it does you could either have both running or move fully over to the new one.
