Question about getting VAT registered

Hello friends ,
Couldnt search for term VAT since its less than 4 letters.

This is my first post here and came across this site while searching for something completely unrelated to your site..

Really good site with a lot of experienced members around.

Iam in UK n recently tried starting a business for which I have to be VAT registered, its a distributorship only for companies with VAT number so i tried to get VAT but only those who are running a business already can be VAT registered and my application got declined.

So my problem is to get business i need VAT and to get VAT i need to have a running business.

whats the advice u can give to me ? I dont have enough money to buy a VAT registered business and then get distributorship or start a different business and get it VAT registered and then get distributorship for my business.

Speak to HM Customs and Exercise. They are generally very useful, do you want to set a firm selling goods from a supplier but your supplier only allows VAT registered businesses/people to sell their goods?

HM C&E were actually rude , they said I need to speak to the company who are giving me distributorship n they wont help any further..
