Question about adding Membership Function to my site

Ok - so I am just getting my website off the ground. I plan to add two more areas over the next couple of weeks. Tutorials - to help people use the programs that I review and web templates. I was wondering if I used make this information available to people who signup and get a username and password or if I should make it public to anyone who visits my site. The information will be free but I am trying to increase readership, return visitors, and my mailing list. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I would suggest at first offer services to every visitor.

I was thinking that might be the way to go until I built up readership. Thanks
