new online real estate service targeting overseas students

    Hi there,

I have an idea to start a website where I focus mainly on providing rental informations for students in australia within a 5 - 10 km radius of their university. In this website I also plan to introduce the pros and cons of the suburb that the apartment or house is on.

Its really a rough idea. I have already registered the domain. I am still doing my research phase. I only thought of this idea less than 1 wk ago.

I guess my main target audience is overseas students. Being a overseas student myself, I find it very hard to find a place to stay before i came to this country.
Even if i know the name of the suburb, I really don't know much about it example, restaurants nearby, transportation stations nearby, grocery stores etc

So it came to me. a website that can have user input where a student that have lived and studied in a state telling others their experience.

My motivation is not making money but to help other fellow students.

I plan to use google map as part of my website like www.blockhunter.com

I still have no idea how am i going to achieve this. I dont have much education in website technology. I have a certified graphic designer

    pls give me some advise..

    cheers

    welcome

I know this space very well

I've done work with most major AU universities and colleges

    what's your resume like?

do you have any experience with launching new, consumer internet products?

    Hi akula,

no i have no experienced in this area at all

I graduated from RMIT with a bachelor of arts (multimedia) I studied graphic design, web design etc.

But to be honest I have no interest in doing design anymore. Since I graduated I have not touched or done any freelance work on design. I have experienced in printing though. I am working as a manager in a Family owned copy center near RMIT in melb.

I have been following ye.com for sometime and I know that u started a student community website.

I am looking forward for some input and advice from u mate

    cheers,

    okey dokey

    rmit huh? great uni

well..look, I can pretty much tell you what ever you want to know, except the questions need to be yours...this conversation isn't gonna work unless you too can engage in it

so, what exactly do you want to know?

some basic things you should be wondering about are; why is student classifieds a bad opportunity (i.e. what are your threats, risks etc), and in case it isn't, what's the safest way to enter this space (i.e. do I build then sell, or sell then build, or go through an acquisition or yet another alternative)

really...this is only gonna work if you can ask the right questions from the right people
