Need help on percentage!!!

Hope every one is doing well, and Biz is doing great. My question is about figuring out a percentage to take out or charge a customer/shop for my extra work? I do custom automotive refinishes as an independent contractor/free agent for shops or business for myself. It's my good friend and me we are partners, but I lead the projects (hands on work) and do all the net working, biz leads, plan the schedule, manage the budget per job or project etc etc etc. After we part ways and go home I still keep calling customers, answering calls, surfing the paint forums for seminars and clinics etc. So basically I keep working to get more work or find ways of improving our skills and quality of work. We make almost the same amount of money but now that were taking off and our name is growing I need to start deducting or charging a certain percentage for my extra work. Nothing greedy just fair for me and him, we do the same functions except that I'm the head Thanks for your time and help you guys have a good day.

I would pay myself and my partner for the work done as an employee, and then split the profits.

Example: $25.00 per hour rate

You: 60 hours x $25
Partner: 40 hours x $25

You should each have equal skills for the same payrate, and have a system in place to track hours.

That would be fair to me.

what you ought to have is a registered company and the use of time sheets

use time sheets, these are important tools for managing productivity

just tell the guy "hey, I'd like to keep better records for tax purposes, so what I'd like to do is use time sheets. They will benefits our business because they can help us manage and improve productivity. If we don't record use of time, we can't see where our problems lie, or where we can make improvements"
