    Melting Ice Cream

I currently run an ice cream parlor as a proprietor. Well it’s not really an ice cream parlor because I only serve ice cream on cups and cones and water and soft drinks. It has been up for 3 months now.

    I have several problems.

I have problems with purchasing. I can’t seem to find the things I need like a brownie supplier and particular ice cream cups needed for certain products. I have looked on the yellow pages and the internet. Where else do I look?

I want to add new products like sundaes floats and other ice cream creations
But I feel so tied down because of the meticulous inventory tracking of each of the ingredients like nuts and chocolate sauce. I still do not have a POS sys. I keep track of the scoops by weighing the scoops and writing the number of scoops sold. How do I proceed with this?

Once I solve these problems, I will have a grand reopening so that the people will be aware that I have new products and a better looking store.

Maybe you shouldnt have started up yet. But since you did, I guess you should fix what you can.

For inventory tracking, at the LEAST...you should have a par level for the day and a par level for the week. Then you should have back stock to replenish those par levels whenever you need to. When your back stock runs low, its time to re-order.

I think inventory is your primary concern right now. Once you got that down then start working on some other things.

If I was you I would invest $1000 to buy a cash register (at Sams, Costco, Staples, etc.) and a Quickbooks with the POS add on. I have been using quickbooks with POS at our small location for a year and a half. It is easy to use and navigate (you do need to read the manual though) and easy to set up.
It allows you t do inventory tracking, set up alerts when products get to a certain level, inventory aging reports (to see which items sell the best and when), profit trackers and expense trackers as well.
It's a robust solution for the small to medium guy. Just my opinion based on my experience with the problem you are having and the solution I found. I hope this helps. Take care! -Tyler

you can also try to have a good logo for your business, or If you already have one, try to ask people to improve it. You have to think about WHAT do your clients are looking for? which colours? which flavors? you have to look very delicious!
