Hi,
I am in the process of putting together a plan for a new potential business, developing a piece of software that bridges a local database inventory program to the web. The existing inventory software is used by thousands of businesses in a particular industry. The data that is stored locally in the businesses computers, used for inventory of their products, is copyrighted. Let me explain - The software is licensed to the company. The data that is stored by the software is then copyrighted material by the software company. Per the agreement the business signed with the software provider, they are not to extract the data for any other use.
So, is there any way, legally, I can get around this? The software I want to develop is very much in demand in this industry, but the problem is getting around the legal issues of using the data. I'm sure if we dissected the agreement signed by the business, we might find a loophole of some sort. The businesses are pretty much held by their balls as far as using their own data about their business for other use, such as displaying their inventory on the web.
Please PM me to discuss further
Thanks
