    LegalZoom Has Anyone Used them

I’m stuck at a cross road don’t know what to do. I’m needed to trademark my business name and I don’t know either to try Legal Zoom or just an old fashion lawyer to do it for me. The price difference is a lot by a couple of thousands of dollars. However, I don’t want to waste money

My question has anyone used legal zoom here in this forum. If you have how was your experience? I did some research and I found a lot of bad complaints.

    Thank you Elizabeth

Legal Zoom is fine but they are really expensive.

Assuming that a trademark qualifies for protection, rights to a trademark can be acquired in one of two ways: (1) by being the first to use the mark in commerce; or (2) by being the first to register the mark with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office ("PTO").

Thus, if you are the first to use it in commerce you will have some protection without registering it. Hence, if you want to save some $ you could start using it in business without registering it. That would offer you some protection while saving you some $. When your business is more established you can then try to register it.

No need to pay Legal Zoom to do it for you. You can register your own trademark - all you have to do is follow the instructions at the United States Patent & Trademark Office - just Google File Trademark Registration and follow the instructions. Legal Zoom is not a law firm and would be basically charging you for the same thing you can do yourself. Note: registration with the PTO is not required for a trademark to be protected.

Thank you very much. I will try to do it myself first. A lawyer is going to charge me 3000 to do this which is a lot when you first start a business without any loans.

    Again thank you
