    laws

    ive been searching google and cant find the laws on how i would be able to get copyrights to artwork if i wanted to use artwork on art.com, where would i go to get that copyright?

    You don't "get" the copyright, per se. You ask the artist for permission to use the artwork. And they may charge you a fee and retain the copyright, meaning you have only a limited-use license in the artwork.

    I'd start by trying to identify the artist and, if living, contact him or her directly to get permission.

    Exactly, you would be looking for some type of permission or licensing from the artist in order to resell or reproduce the work. Obtaining a copyright would be solely for work that you have created yourself.

    Correct in that you need to contact the copyright owner, who likely is the creator of the art, but incorrect in that you must create a work to own the copyright. You could simply purchase the copyright from the copyright owner.
