Thank you for all your replies. I am currently working on getting my site together. My perspective date for my business startup is January of 2008. Meanwhile I'll be working on networking and getting my materials such as brochures/cards. I'm having the hardest time figuring out what logo and name I want to use.

There is a pretty awesome thing you can do, called "keyword targeting".

A technical term that pretty much boils down to this, you do some research using completely free tools to find out what it is people are searching for relative to your target audience.

Then, when you find something of a "winner," you write content (a page or two to begin with) on your website specifically focused on ONE set of keywords.

You go down the line, making pages directed towards those keywords/phrases.

My first suggestion to you is become very clear about what your site is trying to do... are you SELLING or are you INFORMING...or a little of both?

Becoming very clear also involves something like the answer to: if you had to put the main focus of your website into two, rather condensed sentences, what would they be?

Armed with those answers, you can then submit your site to as many directories and search engines as possible.

And while that takes a while to build inward-flowing traffic, you can be weeding out the obscure, and untouched keywords and phrases that'll help carve out a place for you.
