    Exclamation Job Company

I recently bought a website from a friend of mine that i think has a lot of potential. I just really don't know where to begin marketing. Now, this site has about 230 jobs posted to it and about 50 registered job seekers. In what ways should I be marketing?Do I have to wait and market to jobseekers until I reach like 10,000 like other websites or do I market to employers, but the thing is if they sign up and try to search for resumes, they'll be only like 30. I am marketing with adwords and banners etc.

    Please help!!

You need to find all websites which offer your service and offer link exchanges. This can be time-consuming but you are basically going to have to search through Google and Yahoo for the services your offering and do link exchanges - some people will want a straight link exchange or a 3 way link exchange. A 3 way link exchange is basically the website you want to link to you does but you link to another website that they as you to.

You also need to do what i like to call FREE ADVERTISING - you need to submit your site onto www.domdo.com and places like that - domdo will put your website on automatically it will give you a few hits not loads but some.

Again, you need to get your site out their is how i like to call it, basically what you need to do is tell everyone you know about your site and get them to signup, or get some of them to signup, even if they don't ask them to tell their associates and tell them to pass it on, this will get you some nice traffic coming to your site.

Finally you need to do paid advertising, use adsense and overture for this.(which you mention but use other programs as well) You can set your limit say $5 a day and get yourself of say a pr5 or 6 site to get yourself pageranked quickly , the easiest way to do this is go on a website that is basically doing the same as you that does overture or adsense and click advertise here your advert should appear on the site and will get you found quicker by the googlebot, and should get you nice traffic coming to your site which should lead up to more sign ups . Also you need to advertise on places like my website www.buymydesktop.com - i don't mean to self promote here, but i am getting nice traffic and a good click through rate on the people who have already purchased icons on my desktop.

    Hope this will help you

    Hey,

I really appreciate the advise. I don't know if it matters (well I'm sure it does) this job site is not national. I'm doing a job site only for 1 area code. I want to be very specific.

What would you change if that was the case. This isn't like careerbuilder or something, it's more targeted toward 1 specific area code.

well what i would do then, is find all websites in my local area and advertise on their sites.

Also i would advertise my site in my local shops etc and the local newpaper, this should get you sufficient traffic coming from your area code and should get you some signups

    steral,

My wife worked for a couple of years selling the services of a staffing company so I have a little bit of understanding about how these firms work, but that makes me in no way an expert.

Employers don't subscribe to these sorts of services very often. To fill openings, they often just use their own website, newspaper classifieds and maybe monster/careerbuilder or some of the larger websites.

If you look at most of the postings on the job boards, you will see that they come from agency recruiters. You see, the HR person at a company needing to fill a position is in no particular hurry to get it done. It's just more work of which they have plenty.

If they have an contingent agreement with a recruiting firm then the recruiters are very motivated to find resumes and fill the position. They are not working on salary like the HR person, they work on commission and don't get paid unless they find a candidate to fill the opening. For that they get paid something like 5-20% of the jobs annual salary depending on what they negotiated.

So you will probably find most of your paying customers in the staffing firms.
But what will they pay for? When a recruiter gets on a job board, they have one or a handful of specific openings that they need to fill RIGHT NOW. They will likely not pay much to access a site with only 30 resumes on file.

To better market your site to the staffing firms you probably want to build up a file of resumes. One questionable tactic some of the recruiting firms use is to put out postings in larger job forums for which they don't have any actual job. The resumes they collect go into a file. Perhaps contact some companies offering to list jobs for free just to build up a list of register users/resumes.

You might try calling some recruiting agencies in the area and just offer to buy them lunch in exchange for picking their brain. Folks in the staffing business are very gregarious so you will likely find someone who will talk with you about their business and the problems they face.

    Good luck with it!
