IRD Numbers

Hi,

My friend operates a small business in New Zealand, and she is applying to the IRD (Inland Revenue Department - New Zealand's tax collector) for an IRD number for her small home business. When you are applying for an IRD number, what is the "start date" for your organisation?

Is that the day the organisation was formed? Or the day your organisation commenced operations? She is eager to get things underway, but isn't very knowledgeable about these things.

if the business has a cash accounting - it's the date you have your first deposit

if the business has accrual accounting - it's the date of the first acc/rec
