    Good or Bad Idea???

i recently had an idea that came to my head and i put it on paper. I was just wondering what you guys would think of this idea, if it was practical or not, if it would sell well or not. I use to work as a network cabling technician and i basically came up with this to help guys like me terminate fibre optics on construction sites where you might not find stabilized surfaces to do the terminations...what it is, is just a fold up table with multiple slots for the different tools involved in terminating fibre as well as an adjustable chair for comfort. I am not asking for anyones money to invest in this unless they think it is a good idea, then maybe we can work something out. All i'm asking for is for your opinions on this idea and what steps are involved or should i take to create this product. I have contacted a couple of companies and they said that it will take around $10,000-$15,000 CDN to make which i clearly don't have that much to spend at the moment and they won't even help with advertising up here meanwhile some companies in the states do...so ya if you're willing to put some input, it would be much appreciated
    Thanks

If you can come up with a prototype, there are a few companies that will help you with development, marketing, etc.. I'm just not sure how much they charge.

By the way, I have been looking into finding a way to do rural broadband internet. How much does it cost, per yard/meter, for example, to get fibre run?

coming up with a prototype is my biggest problem because i don't have $10,000 to $15,000 to make one...i don't know EXACT pricing at the moment but i can try to find out how much...i know it's not cheap plus u'll need fibre cards which turns the light signal into electronic signals which could easily be $2,000-$10,000 or more if i'm not mistaken...keep in mind i was only a technician...i didn't know prices but like i said i will try to find out....a company that i use to deal with is called ANIXTER you can try to give them a call and see how much it will cost...www.anixter.cai also found this company and for 62.5/125 fibre at 12 meters it's $120.99 which isn't bad but then again depending onhow long ur run is 12 meters might not be long enough...http://www.m2cables.com/fiberOpticsOne.html

Hehe, I will be needing about 2 1/2 miles run. That adds up to quite a sum. Anyway, I dont know much about what it would take to set this up, but I know a Venture Capital company that might be able to help. Only stipulation is that you need to have an established team working with you on the design- it gives your business proposal much more credibility. Can you design a prototype and business plan on paper, at least?

i already have a rough sketch with measuremeants and description of what type of materials i want to use to create the product and the benefits of having the product...business plan would take me a little while but i'm sure i would be able to...and for working with a team, i would love that working with a team can create good ideas make the design phase a whole lot shorter...

I'm actually getting very close to getting a prototype made myself for an invention i have. My biggest advice is to be very careful who you deal and talk with there are plenty of invention scams out there. If your going to be spending that type of money you need a prototype where they can easily make the tools to mass produce it. Also now days with C.A.D you don't actually need solid prototypes if you no your idea will work get someone to draw it with C.A.d. Im actually getting a compnay in china to make my prototypes for me, its worked out very cost effective so that might be an option. Anyway good luck with it

Yeh i checked out that company they seem pretty good. With the product that i'm getting made the company that i'm dealing with can take it straight to the product line in china which helps heaps, because getting each unit made over here will cost around $15 where as i can get it made in china for around $5 so if you believe that there is a huge potential for your product i suggest trying to get it overseas asap.
