Getting a retailer to carry my product

I have a athletic apparel line of clothing. I found the retailer that I feel will be the best fit to carry my brand. I am almost done preparing all I need to go in a show them my product. I have the contact e-mail to the person in charge. All I want to know in your experiences what is something I can do differently to set myself apart from other companies that try and get their brand into retail stores? I have a few ideas, but I know there is more then I can do.

Try to get the email contacts phone number. It is much harder to turn people down on the phone. It is also much easier to sell yourself by speaking. Come up with a way to get them on the phone or meet them in person. You will probably have better results then if you tried to put together an email. Just make sure you have a nice business presentation to send them if they request it. Also practice a little sales script as well or work on what you will say and how you will present yourself. If they turn you down the first time, ask why, re-group improve on their concerns and try again. Persistence pays as well.
