looking at some sites - they post their products and things they are selling or a mini about page about their sites - I am looking at my front page but I do not want to add so much articles or ebooks I would like the user to search the site as everything is very easily accesible - on a site what informative information should be on the front page?

You Need some kind of introduction / pitch on the main page to draw them in even if your not selling then anything, include some images and possible some offers. That would be My Advice.
