What would be the best way to advertise my forum once it's finished? It's a general forum and vBulletin (: I'll be doing flyers and putting them in shops and stuff.

You may want to consider creating a focus for the forum. A general forum will be harder to promote.
One thing you should always ask yourself is "Why would anyone want to come to my forum?" Once you can start answering that question, you know your getting somewhere.

The other thing is getting posts/topics started. people have different views on this, but you can higher companies/get friends to get the forum moving. By that I mean make it look very active so that it does become active as new users sign up.

Fliers could help, look alot into SEO. Maybe even Google Adwords.

It is a hard and overwhelmed market to get into, but that does NOT mean it can't be done. I think your number one thing you should do is create a focus.

My focus is everything you see, I hate going on forums like DP which is just business and can't talk general stuff like gaming etc that's why I combined it all into 1 alot of people said that it's a good idea.
