Finding suppliers for precious/semi-precious gems

I have a good number of contacts in the high-end home decor mail-order business, and have been contemplating manufacturing a small line of lighting fixtures and other decor to be sold in these and other outlets. I had thought that I'd like to use jade (either jadeite or nephrite) accents for these pieces. My problem is that I'm having trouble pricing/finding suppliers for either the worked or unworked stone. I was hoping somebody might have advice on how to get started looking for suppliers. It's a little bit complicated by the fact that the gems are, at least principally, mined in Asia. Any thoughts would be extremely helpful. Thanks!

I am currently based is asia, Sri Lanka to be exact. You're concept sounds intersting. If you are willing to let me know what types of gemstones you are intersted in. I may be able to help you find a supplier as my family is in the gemstone buissness.
