Well it sounds like you have a few problems on your hands.

    1) You need help starting a business

    2) once you get that business started you will need help on how to run it

    3) sounds like you have some debt that needs to be paid. So hopefully you have some means of paying your bills, because you won't make money off of a business (if you are able to get one started) for a while.

Its going to take a lot of time and effort on your part to get things done. You have to be very willing and eager to learn. And you have to be willing to just do it and not make excuses like "I don't know what to do". Most entrepreneurs learn things along the way as they are doing them.

Business Planning is a page that has a few articles written by my personal business consultant. You should read them, especially the one titled "Are You an Entrepreneur?".

I'm not exactly sure how licensing is done up in Canada, but your local/regional licensing department should probably be able to help you with those things or refer you to the right resources.

If you have the money and you need some good face to face time with someone that can explain things and work with you to create a game plan, hire a business consultant (average is about $125/hour for a decent one).

Stephanie, forget about the latter posting.

To make a long story short, the information you need to get started with your business is right there in your city, all in one place, and you can get it all for free. It's called your local area Chamber of Commerce.

Just find your local Chamber of Commerce and make an appointment to speak with an adviser, they don't charge a penny, and they can put you in the right direction and tell you everything you need to get started.

excuse me? lol. I agree that she needs to go to the chamber of commerce (if they have one), but they are going to tell her to do the same stuff I listed in my posting.

Don't turn this into just another crappy arguing thread on YE. Give advice. You know there is nothing wrong with the information I provided. Its what she needs to do. If you have a better way to do it or additional information, then share it. Don't tell someone to completely disregard information that tells them what they need to do (which is what they asked for).

Here is the link to the Montreal Chamber of Commerce; http://www.ccmm.qc.ca/en/index.aspx.

Go check with them, they have all the answers to all of your questions. They also offer networkings and workshops to get you in shape and ready to start your business, all for free.

    Good luck.
