Looking for views from the group about whether YET another book on web startups is needed.
The concept is an e-book of case studies (in-depth with every step documented) of web-based businesses that have received private angel or VC funding as a start up in last couple of years, particularly those where I STILL can't see the profit model (and there's plenty of them).
Obviously the promoters stories were great but sometimes you have to wonder...... (mind you I'm the guy who still can't believe bottled water has taken off, so my judgement may be skewed
It would include businesses that are still in their early commercialisation mode (earning revenue above $1M but not yet necessarily making profits) rather than the big name success stories.
So it wouldn't be a book of how they achieved (or are achieving) business success, rather how they achieved VC or angel funding "success" on the back of what (in some cases) look to be business models or products / services that just don't seem to make a lot of sense.
The idea is not to bag the businesses (hell, they are doing something right) but just to focus on the really detailed path to funding success. Things like how the idea was formed, how they prepared the pitch, how many VC or angel presentations they had to go through etc etc.
Model is e-book sales only with a push to top the Amazon charts for the sales driver and sales PR.
Working title
"What the Hell?
Why would anybody fund them?"
Thoughts? Ideas? Collaborators? I am happy to conduct interviews with startups and write but more than willing to profit share for collaborators
