    Contractor questions

The business I am planning would rely heavily on the use of contractors. My Dad, who owns a business, said that you have to prove that you are not the contractor's only source of income in order to get that contractor status and not pay benefits. Is this true? How do I know if I am the only source of income? My business would probably use college students as pay per job employees. Chances are college students don't have too much income, so how do I hire them?

    Thanks

That doesn't make any sense to me at all. In fact, it actually seems a little silly. The ability to classify an individual as a contractor has nothing to do with source of income. Rather, it has to do with the individual's independence in completing the work. Do a little research.

I thought it seemed silly also. That is why I asked. My Dad has a furniture company and a lawyer, and he told me that he has to prove that he is not the only source of income for the company that he contracts to stain the furniture. Otherwise he has to pay for some of thier benefits. Perhaps its a state law?
