    Concerning Apprenticeships

I do hope this question is in the right area of the forum, if its not please let me know where it would best fit and I will move it immediately.

So, I am currently pursuing a degree in Business and focusing on entrepreneurship, hence my being drawn to this site. Anyway, I was reading a chapter in one of my textbooks that suggested a means of accumulating real world experience in the industry as well as opening future avenues for investment and profit. That method, of course, was an apprenticeship.

The chapter went on to say that it would be best to find an apprenticeship with an established small business owner in order to gain valuable experience. At the end of this apprenticeship I would be able to help the owner by taking on some of the responsibilities that they are burdened with i.e. suppliers, inventory, book keeping, customers, promotions etc. This allows the owner more time to possibly take weekends off to enjoy with their families or even begin their pursuit of their next investment.

Now, here is my question to all of you, especially those of you who have your own business. what would be the best way to go about securing a position like that with a small business owner? If someone were to approach you with a proposition like that what would convince you that it would be an idea worth your consideration?

Right now I'm simply trying to figure out the best way to approach business owners with my proposition and what I should to to minimize the possibility of being rejected.

    thank you all in advance

I would look for a family member who may know someone they could reference you to. Or close family friend etc. Building the trust is going to be a big part of this process.
