I'd guess insurance and public safety would be the hardest issues to get around.

It depends on the scale of the event. Assuming it's a money making venture I'd suggest you contact people that have done it before. Not necessarily the big dogs but some of the smaller potatos.

There's lots to consider from how you will make your money, what your costs will be, do your local laws require permits, etc. Also the venue will have their own rules because they have to obey code as well so things like crowd size and safety become a factor. If it's indoors fire code is especially a factor and participants usually have to enter the arena with a nearly empty gas tank. You have to think all of these things out beforehand or else you'll have entrants pre-paying for entry only to show up and be turned away. Host a well run tight event and you'll have people begging to know when the next one is.

    Just research every angle.

    Good luck!

    I've hosted car shows

Hey, just wanted to let you know, that i've help plan and hosted a few car shows that turned out ok. . .but it's very hard to get a good turnout when its not a well known event. . .like nopi, or southern showdown, etc.
Your best bet if you are doing something like that would be to get a few people you know involved so you can split profit. . .one person can run the the entrance, one can run a dj booth (check w/people you know about mixers and stuff, we happened to have dj equipment laying around).
After you get everything planned that you are going to do. . .food, drinks, entertainment, 50/50, etc and find a location.

Best thing to do is get on your local car forums and post about it, go to local shops and drop of fliers, talk to local car club presidents. Make sure there is something in it for them though other than just hanging out. . .they can do that in a parking lot. You gotta have a prize (trophy, money, etc) I'm sure you know that. . .but i'm just trying to help. . .I did raise about $300 in a car show that was put together w/about a 2 week notice once, it was all for the red cross for hurricane victims earlier this year though.

    Good Luck

Anders I pmed you, I have layouts for this idea, it's also a part of my business plan. Lets jump on this maybe we can get it going before the summer, btw where do you plan on doing this?

On a sidenote/threadjacking kind of way, I see many people are interested in this idea, maybe we can get together and work something out? I'm interested and I know this can work.

    Sounds good to me

This would be very good... if it is in the States... I wouldnt mind getting out and doing sometype of advertising (flyers with coupons and outdoor ads???)for this down there for my car website... so I think if we all get together on this it would be fun.... and i'm always looking to leave town

If it goes well, we could always come up to Canada

    Later
