    Business Question(s).

First off, this is an amazing place to find answers. Thank you all. I have a few questions regarding a business idea I have come up with. I would like to design and build something to suit a certain person's need. Forgive me for not being specific, but you never know. This object will be aimed at a certain audience/consumer. The market for this item has grown substantially in the past 3 years and it shows no signs of slowing down. My questions are:

    1) Can I use parts that are already made? For instance Apple Inc. uses Samsung chips inside their computers. Will I run into any problems if I use already manufactured parts?

    2) Do I need a patent? The product that I will build already exists, but I plan on making it specifically for a certain consumer. I also plan on making it better.

Thats all I can think of for now. Thank you for your answers.

whenever you are dealing with possible legal issues, nothing beats the advice from an attorney.

I wouldn't risk your success on free generalized information you are given online.

If you can't afford an attorney, figure out a way to do it, find someone you know that is willing to help you for free, or find some partners in this, or something. If you don't think you'll make enough money off the product to justify the expense of an attorney, then you probably shouldn't worry about the legal aspects and just do it.

As far as using another company's product in your own. You can do anything you want, as long as the other company's logo, information, etc; stays intact. Unless you have some other agreement with the manufacturer. There might also be some laws about intended use of products. If you are using a product for something other than what it was intended for, you might want to look into the legality of it and/or get permission from the manufacturer.

Thanks for your help. I'm going to use the product as it was designed, so i shouldn't have any issues.
