Business name and brand name protection

I am starting a small clothing operation. I am wondering what are some of the legal aspects I should tend to in order to not allow my brand name to be stolen. If you guys have any other pointers for starting a clothing company you would like to throw out there I welcome them. Thank you.

Register like Akula mentioned. Also legal advice is always helpful. There are plenty of online resources as well. I would recommend getting all of your ideas down in a bound journal that way if someone tries to rip off a design you have a paper trail to prove when you started the design process. Best of luck!
