Best way to learn html/web design?

I'm interested in starting a few ventures but they all require a web site. Most of these planned ventures rely fully on the internet. Instead of paying or partnering with a design business, I'd like to learn so in the future I can design sites for myself.

I've designed a few sites with Netscape Composer but that's very basic. I've tried to learn html to improve the site but I was very lossed. I also downloaded the 30 day trial of dreamweaver and I didn't get very far with that.

Are there any books/sites that can help a newbie like me? I'm looking for a resource that starts with the basics and elevates to an amateur/professional level.

    Thank You.

I have some dreamweaver video tutorials on my new site www.juggernautclub.com and to learn HTML/CSS the best way is to follow the tutorials at www.w3schools.com

They took me about 1.5 hours when I first started a year or so ago.

Personally...I'd say don't bother learning HTML/CSS Joomla makes it so you don't ever need to. I have made money over and over again designing and developin websites for clients....I can whip up just about anything using Dreamweaver and Photoshop...Yet I still use Joomla...becuase its just faster and more powerful.

    1. www.w3schools.com

    2. Read and write tutorials for yourself, you can build your l33t rep by submitting them to sites in the future.

    3. Use the skillz.

Dreamweaver sucks, why would you want it to spoonfeed you? And HTML/CSS is too easy to need the help of some program, all you need is notepad

yeah, w3schools.com would be the no.1 recommendation.
You could also look for video tutorials if you have any specific thing to learn.

This is not true in most instances. A lot of browers conflict with Dreamweaver and it is better to learn through using something like notepad. Good suggestion though!

    Try Joomla, or outsource.

Wasting your time on trying to become a great web designer will slow you down.
Or you can employ my services.
I currently am a sales rep for a web design site and we charge 200$ for a website. You can see our portfolio if you would like.

    Yeah ,
Jesterx has given another great Idea.
If you join a html forum and be active there for a few weeks.
