Being a teen entrepreneur in Hong kong

    Hi all,

I'm still a teen and because Hong Kong is a very metropolitan city, nobody takes anybody below 18 seriously when they say they would like to start a business. I've never tried doing stuff offline because I'm scared of running into problems with laws. When I was much younger I used to be a massive card dealer, but then found out what I did was illegal because technically, I was "hawking" and you need a hawker's license in order to sell stuff as a stall.

Doing businesses online interests me at this age, but then I have zero knowledge in programming and designing websites etc..., and I don't think I should do those domain hosting websites because there's too much competition out there that I figure it would be not so profitable. Selling stuff via the internet isn't bad of an idea, but sell what?!

I would still like to keep it offline, but at this point in my life, many of my ideas cannot be turned into reality because of my lack of initial investment and problems with the law.

Does anybody have any ideas on what to do? Yes I want to get started on my long entrepreneurship career and I really want to start somewhere!

Well I guess it is kind of the same attitude toward young business people all over the world. I know I get the same type of thing here in Australia.

I'm not sure what the state of China is like over there at the moment. Although from what I've heard your government is a piece of shit. (to put it politely)

I'm guessing anything you do online will be filtered and restricted. Though I think if you identify an online business that is currently not in the Chinese market or is still developing, then jump into that.

Have a look at some of the online businesses and business models which are operating in others countries like the UK, US etc and see if a similar thing is operating in China or not.

    Just a few thoughts.

    cheers

    Good idea.

but i'd like to point out a few differences. When it comes to business, as long as it's not anti-communist or pro-religion, almost any business can be done through the Internet. Secondly, because HK retains its special region status and is not under Chinese control, the economy here is very westernized, yet it's bad because business oppurtunities are at a minimum.

seriously, if I was living in China i'd already be making a shedload of money right now instead of seeking help over the internet because you can practically do anything there and still make decent profit.

do you have any ideas on what to do?

I can understand your concern about doing traditional business. Even the estabished retail business there sometimes have a hard time surviving. I came to the US from Hong Kong many years ago. Being back there last year and talking to my friends, seems like to become rich there is thousands times harder than here in the US.

Anyway, what is your area or interests? (product design, manufacturing, computers, clothing... etc?) This might sound so obvious, but I think to be successful, you have to have interest in what you're doing.

i don't mind jewellery, electronics, sport shoes...but it's hard making a decision to do which one cause it'll be overload. is there anything else apart from retailing? I don't have much services to offer, unless I happen to have a service but just don't know about it.

    Idea? Maybe

I'm trying to figure out how to import from over there. . .I've found several companies that make turbos/intercoolers etc. for cars, if I can get one to let me start kind of small and if I can figure out how to get them imported to the US, I could make a killing - given the product is quality. . .but there are several things over in your area that are killer cheap compared to here. So i guess what i'm trying to say is, in my opinion you could find something there to buy in bulk that isnt quite offered to the public or learn about importing (which i think is going to be a bit complicated/expensive) something from another country that isn't produced there.

Just a thought of mine though. . .which ever way you go, Good Luck!
