    question on liability insurance

If one decides to sell a product that is "very safe" by normal people's standard, which means there are no way the product can hurt anyone unless grossly abused, such as swallowing...is it still necessary to get liability insurance?

We live in a society where people do not like to take responsibility for their own actions so I would like protect myself 100%.

If I do need liability insurance, what is the proper procedure to get one? And how expensive are they? Thanks

Also, don't forget about insurance covering the basic operations of your business. I would say yes you need some, although if your product is that safe then you won't need as much as others. Find an agent who will explain everything to you. Make the agent sell to you as a business owner. It really isnt that expensive either. Don't forget, if someone walks into your office and slips and falls... youre liable for that too!

I carry more than the typical small business because of our field, but not too much, because I am a reseller, not a manufacturer. The amount was suggested by our agent who came reccomended and is very trustworthy.

A few things to consider that I really didnt when we started:
    • Car Insurance: if your vehicle is used for company business and/or is logo'd. State minimums are rarely enough anymore, and as soon as someone see's a logo they think $$$$.
    • Find out who's going to insure your trailer you use and the contents inside
    • Does your insurance work off site, for example an expo demonstration/booth(many expos require this, not all policies include it)
    • What paperwork or warnings can you give to lower your costs and liabilities
