Need advice

As I have mentioned in other threads on this forum, I am starting a magazine. I was wondering if it is a bad idea to get a prepaid lawyer since I am just starting out and doubt that I have the funds to hire another type of lawyer.

Why would it be a bad idea? However way you can get some legal advice professionally you should go for it. I'm not versed on pre-paid legal other than they are an MLM but if you can just get the service, with some due diligence, you should see if it suits your need for legal stuff.

Good luck-

I have never heard of a "prepaid" lawyer and I am an attorney. Where are you located Haze, I might be able to refer you to someone.

I haven't either. This doesn't make sense to me. At first I was thinking that pre-paid was referring to a retainer, but that doesn't make sense in this case.

I mean like the prepaid legal services. Like the kind found at Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. where you pay a monthly few for a legal plan and law services.

I took a look at the website. It appears to deal with only the most basic legal issues, i.e. real simple contract disputes, traffic tickets, wills etc. Personally, I would be a little wary of services like this; however, I have not dealt with them and I don't know anyone who has.

In my opinion I would not use a service like that to start a business. Sure, it might be cheaper at the begining; however, it might cause bigger more expensive problems later. Remember, good attorneys do a lot more than just fill in forms and templates. They counsel you with regard to legal strategy, they discuss alternatives ways to accomplish your business goals, they help you avoid costly litigation, etc.

It is obviously your decision but I would give it some serious thought. Good luck.
