I am creating a single member LLC in the state of Pennsylvania. I do not plan on having any employees within the next 12 months. Do I need an IRS Employer ID Number?
Thanks

You should really consult an attorney for legal advice.
You probably should have a tax ID number. Here is a link to a company that provides excellent service and has good information about forming companies and partnerships.

a tax ID number is FREE
you should get one so that you can get everything for your business under your busiens name
like cell phone, land line and so on..
go to IRS.gov and apply for your EIN online. There is a link to click on there to apply online and you can check the Single Member LLC area. If you do it in the posted business hours, you will get your EIN in about 10 minutes time.

Hi WW,
I am not from PA, but did this same thing in VT and to my knowledge this is the process over all for LLCs:
The beauty of an LLC is that it is its own separate entity, with its own identity and rules and coverage, etc. That being said, you could use your own SSN but in order to get the benefits of that LLC status, you should keep everything very well defined between yourself and the LLC. So, the LLC should have its on EIN, and in some states, you also need your own State Tax ID number, which you would use for state filings, sales tax information, and many other things depending on the business type.
What I do suggest is picking up this book at a library or at a bookstore.
Forming an LLC in Any State
Michael Spadaccini
(Amazon it, I can't provide a link until 5 posts haha!)
It was the best $30 investment I made while starting up. The author is an attorney, it is through Entrepreneur Inc. Magazine publishing, and has everything and ANYTHING you need to start up. Forms, documents, all on a CD Rom, and at the end, the author has case studies showing why you should do everything you can to keep separate the LLC from your own things. If not, you risk the ability for the courts/law to "pierce the
corporate veil" and that is never good.
Hope this helps
