Buying on ebay and reselling on another website?

Hello,

I had this crazy idea today and I'm really not sure whether it's legal or not.

I was looking at amplifiers at my local dealer in Canada and realised I could get the same item for 30-40% less on ebay. That's great. I then looked around on a regional website where people advertise different products to see if any were already selling it and the answer is no.

So let's say the amplifier I saw at the local dealer was 1400$, the one on ebay 850$. Would it be legal for me to buy it from ebay, then sell it on the regional ad website for 1100$? Is it legal to do that as an individual or do I have to register as a business? Do I have to put it in my taxes at the end of the year?

Thank you!

Edit: I already mentionned, but I thought I would again, just to make sure, I live in Canada, if that has any incidence or your answers.

So you want to Make Money Online,on e-bay?
I think thats a great idea you have.
But do some research first and see if the amp is in high demand, you don't want to be stuck with it. Also have you ever heard of the guitar center?
You better compare prices there also. Many times what looks like a great deal, is really people buying either wholesale and selling marked up at 50 to 100% over cost.
A good gibson Les Pual Guitar can cost $3000.00 in a store, but most stores pay $895.00 for them from the factory in high volumes. I know because I have done this.
Then the store price mark up is 300%....this is why guitar center can undercut other stores. selling at prices near 1/2 off retail at times. And they still make money.
I have seen $6000.00 sound consoles or mixing boards for home studio's in stores around the county....I won't mention any names......but stores pay only $1200.00 for them and make 500% profit...I kid you not.
So yes do some research...and no it's not illegal to sell.........you can sell anything you own on ebay....just like a yard sale...you own it...you can sell it !!
I did this on ebay myself and made $26,500.00 my first month

i don't think he is looking at wholesalers. TS maybe your local dealer pushed up the prices ? It's better to check out the retail prices on more shops first before deciding.

...it's called arbitrage, taking advantage of market price differentials. I'd be suprised if eBay wasn't already highly optimzed by now (i.e price differentials are low) but maybe you've spot something everyone else hasn't.

Good luck.
