Your best medium depends on your business model, and your target market.

The internet is the most targeted medium their is. Using things like google PPC, Facebook PPC, you can identify your perfect prospect, your perfect customer, and serve ads infront of JUST THEM, and only pay when they click your ad. Pretty powerful concept.

I thought everyone was aware of PPC?!?

You gotta drill down further. Most of the successful marketing on TV, is major brand marketing. They are getting branded exposure for their companies that pays in the long run with a return.

For the small guy like you and myself, we need to be more scientific about things, and be able to calculate our ROI on a much tighter bases. PPC allows this.

    For example

Say u spend $100 on PPC ads, and u are paying $.10 cents per click. for $100 u get 1000 targeted visitors to your site, lets say your capture page assuming you are using one for follow up converts at 10%. That means that out of 1000 visitors, 100 opted in for more information, which brings them to your sales page. and lets be conservative and say your sales page was converting at 10%. That means that out of 100 people who made it to your sales page, 10 of them purchased. Now if you were selling a $25 ebook... and it was yours, not an affiliate, you just earned $250 off your $100 ad spend.

Now these conversions were just clean numbers to do so. However having landing pages convert at 30%, and offers at 15% isn't difficult if you have the right marketing msg and are getting the right traffic.

Once you find a winning combination its just scaling things up to stay within your profit margins.

also out of the 100 people who opted in, you would use an auto responder to follow up with them, as they are still in your pipeline and a percentage will still convert, for a higher ROI.

Building online sales funnels is quite simple and very profitable with the right niche, and understanding of PPC marketing

Thanks a lot for all your valuable answers. I agree with all those who believes that Internet is the best medium to promote a business. Internet makes it extremely easier for YOU to reach your customers/audience right into their inbox or social networks. On the other hand it also helps PEOPLE to easily reach you through search engines or referring website.

@Kameron It is a good example that you gave about PPC. With a brief explanation it makes everything much clearer.

@marketingmaximum There is always a medium to promote or publish a business and there is always only one winner. The medium that most people prefer or opt for, will be the best and effective way to promote a business.

Promotional gifts are to the best method to promote a business. The right promotional gifts can really help you to improve your company’s visibility. By choosing items which stand out from the vast majority of poor-quality items that are handed out every day, you will be able to stand out in the minds of people you give the gifts to.

I say Internet has risen way to the top:

Over 60% of households no longer use the Yellow Pages
82% of consumers search online for local products and services
Over 60% of local searches result in a sale

I agree with most of the above that there is no one best marketing medium for everybody. Each of the listed medium can be the best depending on the business structure, the product and the target market. All of the above list can be used simultaneously depending on the promotional or marketing campaign structure of the company. The more exposure, the merrier. It also depends on the budget of the company.

I agree that it depends on the business that you have.

From my experience (in a few different fields) - print media (unless in major outlets) is sort of a waste of money. It's very expensive and people are paying less-and-less attention to it these days.

There is no one "cureall"... chalk me up with the others, every business is unique and has its own niche.
However, if I had to vote for one. The internet takes the award.

as many have already said it comes down to your business model, however if you look at the trends then Online Video, Modile/Cell Phone marketing, and social networking is where all the action is and will be for a few years to come.
